The research of Dr Noemí Encinas is based in the development of liquid-repellent surfaces and coatings, through physical (roughening) and chemical modification. Her main focus is on the delay of biofilm formation on materials, based on the ability of such surfaces to promote high liquid mobility and low adhesion by mimicking nature (Lotus leaf, shark skin, etc). Lately she is combining such structures with porous nanocarriers, capable to specifically release anti-biofouling drugs.
