We offer a 4-year FPI predoctoral contract associated with the CRYOPROTEOSTASIS project (PID2025-175587NB-I00, MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and ESF+). The successful candidate will join the Structural Biology of Disease Mechanisms Laboratory at Instituto Biofisika to investigate mitochondrial protein folding using cryo-EM, cryo-ET, protein biochemistry and cell biology. The position provides close scientific mentoring and career development, hands-on training in protein purification, mammalian cell culture, single-particle cryo-EM, cryo-FIB milling and in situ cryo-ET, and opportunities to attend specialized courses and present research at international conferences.

Instituto Biofisika (biofisika.org), a joint EHU–CSIC research centre near Bilbao, together with Fundación Biofísica Bizkaia, offers an international, collaborative and multidisciplinary environment. The candidate will have access to world-class infrastructure, including a Krios G4, Aquilos 2 cryo-FIB/SEM, Talos F200i, high-performance computing, advanced light microscopy, and fully equipped biochemistry and cell biology laboratories.

Perfil buscado

• A Bachelor´s and Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biology, Biotechnology, Biophysics, Physics, or a related discipline
• An excellent academic record (typically a with a Bachelor’s GPA above 8.5/10 and a Master’s GPA above 8.5/10.
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Strong motivation to pursue interdisciplinary research at the interface of structural biology, biochemistry, and cell biology
– Previous experience in cryo-electron microscopy is welcome but not required, as comprehensive training will be provided.
