Descripción de la oferta
The student will be integrated into the research group “Functional Genomics of Neurodegenerative Diseases” (P.I. Eulàlia Martí), at the Department of Biomedical Sciences (Universitat de Barcelona, Campus Clinic). Our group belongs to the Institute of Neurosciences that has been awarded with a Maria de Maetzu Excellence Acreditation. At the Institute of Neurosciences diverse researchers, including E. Martí’s group are focused on the study of neurodegenerative disorders using multidisciplinary approaches.
The main research interest in our group is to identify molecular mechanisms contributing to the onset and progression of age-related neurodegenerative disorders, with special focus on non-coding RNA related processes. We aim at understanding disease-driven deregulation of gene expression networks and their role in neuronal dysfunction. Our final purpose is to understand disease mechanisms and identify pathways for therapeutic intervention.
We are a multidisciplinary team including neuroscientists, molecular biologists, bioinformaticians and biostatisticians. We use RNA-seq approaches and data mining strategies to identify deregulated species with neuropathogenic potential. Functional validations, neuropathology and therapeutic approaches are performed in vivo, in model organisms and cell culture, using biochemistry strategies and behavioural phenotyping. We have a wide network of national and international collaborations with clinicians and molecular biologists that boost our activities
Perfil buscado
We are actively seeking students who hold a degree in biomedicine, biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline.
We are looking for highly motivated students with an exceptional academic record to apply for competitive grants (Immediately starting with the application of Fundación Tatiana Pérez de Guzmán el Bueno). If you are enthusiastic, driven, and have a genuine interest in functional genomics research in neurosciences, we encourage you to submit your application for consideration.
