The Neurosciences area of Biodonostia Health research institute (HRI) is looking for a computational Biologist/Bioinformatician. Applications are welcome from junior postdoctoral researchers interested in RNA-biology and RNA-processing. The selected candidate will participate in the analysis of RNA-processing in health and human diseases to identify potential targets for antisense RNA-therapies. We are looking for a junior postdoctoral fellow with a PhD in computational biology (< 3 years since PhD defence) in the topic of basic biology or biomedicine. Applicants should be familiar with Linux/Unix environment and high-performance computing (clusters). Knowledge of programming environments (R/Bioconductor, etc) and languages (Python, Perl…) is also required. Experience with containerized workflows for transcriptomic data analysis will be positively evaluated.
The position is funded, but the candidate is expected to apply for postdoctoral fellowships from public and private research organizations (i.e. Sara Borrell, Juan de la Cierva, Marie Curie IEF, etc.), supported by the research group and the host institute.
The candidate will participate in the planning, processing, analysis and interpretation of next generation sequencing experiments (RNA-seq, iCLIP, long read RNA-seq, etc). The applicant will lead his/her own research project and will co-supervise PhD and Master students in the lab. The candidate will also collaborate in additional projects in the Area related to the analysis of high-throughput genomics data (WES, WGS) for the investigation of complex neurological diseases.
The candidate will be expected to participate in the development of data analysis workflows and pipelines and implementation and customization of existing softwares for data analysis.
The candidate should have at least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal (first decile). Good English and communication skills, initiative and motivation are required.
The lab is located within the Neurosciences area of Biodonostia Health Research Institute (http://www.biodonostia.org/en/). Biodonostia HRI is a national and international centre of reference in the field of health research, giving priority to promoting translational research. The institute is arranged in 7 subject areas that bring together around 350 researchers.
