Dr. Fernández-Veledo obtained her PhD in Biomedicine from the University of Barcelona in 2004, followed by postdoctoral training at prestigious research centers in Madrid (UCM, CBMSO) and La Jolla (TSRI). Since 2011, she has built a successful independent career at the Pere Virgili Health Research Institute (IISPV) in Tarragona, where she currently serves as a consolidated researcher and leads the Diabetes and Associated Metabolic Diseases Research Group (DIAMET). Her research focuses on unraveling the molecular mechanisms underlying obesity-related comorbidities, with the aim of identifying new approaches and targets for metabolic disease treatment. She has published over 100 articles, including notable contributions as a senior author in high-impact journals such as Cell Metabolism, Nature Immunology, JCI and Diabetes Care. Dr. Fernández-Veledo has led numerous competitive research and Innovation & Transfer projects, collaborating with various institutions and the pharmaceutical industry. Additionally, she holds three patents and is a co-founder of the spin-off SUCCIPRO S.L. Since 2013, she has served on scientific evaluation committees and worked closely with the State Research Agency (AEI) and ISCIII. Dr. Fernández-Veledo has also made significant contributions to the training of graduate and postgraduate students at several Spanish universities, supervising numerous doctoral theses and research projects. Furthermore, she actively participates in her institution’s organizational structures, holding key roles in committees and commissions. She is member of the Steering Committee of IISPV, and Coordinator of the Metabolic Diseases and Nutrition Research area. She has recently appointed as a Deputy Scientific Director of CIBERDEM (IISCIII).
