An exciting opportunity has arisen for a research assistant/clinical trial assistant post based at the UCL’s Institute for Liver and Digestive Health (ILDH), which brings together a wide team of basic scientists and clinical experts with the vision to deliver an exciting and forward looking programme of work that will transform translational medicine. The position offers a highly motivating environment, in a translational environment, with access to cutting-edge technologies and resources. The research in this post will be based primarily within the ILDH, UCL Division of Medicine, and may involve work at our two trial sites – the Royal Free Hospital (RFH) and University College London Hospitals (UCLH). ILDH works in close coordination with the Hepatobiliary Medicine, Surgery and Liver Transplantation services at UCLH and RFH.

To consent and recruit patients into different clinical trials maintaining accurate records and databases, including sample collection and processing; ii) To maintain our biobank and contribute to experimental research (e.g. biomarker discovery and validation, multiomics) and assist research team members with provision of information such as recruitment statistics or data when requested; iii) To support research/clinical staff with preparations for sponsor and external audits/inspections; and iv) To assist with the shipment of biological samples and liaise with sponsor staff to ensure data sent is valid.

The research/clinical trial assistant role will be within the Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic (HBP) Cancer multidisciplinary research team and the Institute for Liver and Digestive Health, led by Prof Pereira and Dr Pilar Acedo (@Pereira/Acedo Lab), which investigates novel diagnostic markers and treatments for these cancers. The research in this post will be based primarily within the ILDH (UCL Division of Medicine), which brings together a wide team of basic scientists and clinical experts in the field of translational medicine. The successful applicant will support our projects by performing experimental research on early cancer detection and collection of clinical information in order to guide clinical decision-making and to provide new ways to improve the outcome of HPB cancer patients. There will also be an opportunity to pursue new research interests and training. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to get involved in lab-based projects including sample evaluation and data analysis.

Perfil buscado

The ideal candidate would hold a BSc in Biological Sciences or equivalent and will have experience in biomedical research or of working in a laboratory setting/healthcare environment. Holding an MSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent will be a plus. Experience with collection, handling, processing and evaluation of biological samples and data acquisition is desirable, as well as experience in working with clinical data and databases. The candidate should prove evidence of excellent organisational and communication skills, ability to work independently and to function well within a team.
